General Accountant

Job Description

  • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other financial activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Reconcile bank statements and financial discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Manage accounts payable, including processing invoices, making payments, and ensuring vendor relations are maintained.
  • Oversee accounts receivable processes, including invoicing clients and monitoring outstanding receivables to ensure timely collection.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets, providing insights and variance analyses as needed
  • Support the forecasting process by gathering data and collaborating with other departments.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies.
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of internal control procedures to safeguard financial assets.
  • Prepare documentation and support for internal and external audits, ensuring all requested information is provided on time.
  • Assist in the resolution of audit findings and recommendations.
  • Work closely with team members and other departments to resolve issues and streamline accounting processes.

Job Requirements

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Prior Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the financial services or microfinance sector.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (such as QuickBooks, SAP, or other ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations, particularly in the microfinance or financial services sector.
